2 - 20 August, London, UK

Download programme

7TH OIL TRADERS SUMMER SCHOOL  is an annual in-depth study and career-development course focused on the international trade in oil and oil products. Successful completion of the course is certified by the award of a Russian state Certificate of Further Education.

The programme has been developed by Confidence Capital and the Russian Energy Ministry’s .Institute of Professional Exellence for the specialists of energy sector.

This unique course features individual, specialised units taught by experts in their field, including traders and specialists in trade financing, freighting, legal aspects and more. The result is an intensive, in-depth programme of lectures that encompasses all aspects of trading in oil and oil-products – including related disciplines such as fundamental and technical analysis, oil processing, risk management, financing of trading operations, operational procedures, back-office operations, logistics, freighting and the legal framework – while avoiding generalised or superficial treatment of key issues.

The month-long intensive induction into the functioning of London’s oil markets means that participants are introduced to various aspects of trading, and obtain a detailed understanding of all the commercial and technical aspects of working on the oil market and the oil and gas market as a whole.

It is this approach to the imparting of knowledge that specialists at leading oil companies from across the former Soviet Union and Europe choose. Participants at previous Oil Traders Summer Schools have been drawn from the world’s major oil and gas companies, including Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, TNK-BP, Gazprom Neft, Belneftekhim, Litasco, Kazmunaigaz, BelOil, Naftan and many more. For many specialists, their training at the summer school has represented a turning point in their career.

By taking part in the summer school you can reduce and avoid unnecessary losses at the start of your career,  be confident and secure in taking professional decisions in everyday activity, and learn to think strategically and take advantage of changes in the market situation for oil products.

Practice and visits

The Oil Traders Summer School will include:

  •  Technical visits to oil terminals and refineries;
  •  Visits to the London trading departments of major vertically integrated oil companies such as BP and Shell;
  •  Visits to major brokers and market makers trading in derivatives;
  •  Visits to specialist information agencies such as Platts and Reuters.

The Oil Traders Summer School comprises two modules:
MODULE 1: FUNDAMENTALS OF PHYSICAL AND OTC DERIVATIVES TRADING.
The module is aimed at giving participants detailed and exhaustive basic knowledge on all elements of the oil-trading process – those constructive elements that are essential to build a sure foundation of knowledge and skills necessary for traders, account managers, lawyers and managers. This module is also aimed at those who want to refresh their basic knowledge and bring it up-to-date with current market realities.

Along with module on fundamentals of physical and OTC derivatives trading, we introduced a unique ADVANCED practical module – “TOWARDS TOTAL TRADING PACKAGE”.

MODULE 2: TOWARDS TOTAL TRADING PACKAGE - ADVANCED LEVEL

The aim of the course is to concentrate on questions not generally discussed in professional studies and workshops. Among the topics are: integration of physical transaction, OTC derivatives or futures, risk analysis before taking trading and managerial decisions, choosing a development strategy by planning  of trading.

Whereas the previous module took an “analytical” view and studied individual elements of the market, this module is essentially “synthetic” and aims to bring all the elements covered in the first module into a unified whole, by showing participants how to construct and integrated trading system and how to construct or optimize current sub-units, trends and flows, and develop strategic and tactical decisions.
